TOPIC: TRUST IN GOD'S PROVISION (II)

MEMORISE : But Jesus said to them, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat" (Matthew 14:16).

READ: Matthew 14:13-21

[13]. When Jesus heard it, He departed from there by boat to a deserted place by Himself. But when the multitudes heard it, they followed Him on foot from the cities.

[14]. And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.

[15]. When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food.”

[16]. But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”

[17]. And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.”

[18]. He said, “Bring them here to Me.”

[19]. Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes.

[20]. So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained.

[21]. Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

EXPOSITION

In the narrative of the feeding of the 5000, we witness a remarkable display of God's provision in response to a seemingly impossible situation. Just as Moses doubted his ability to carry out God's plan in Exodus, the disciples doubted their capacity to feed the multitude before them. Of course, they had seemingly nothing to feed the crowd. Yet, Jesus challenged them to trust in His provision rather than focus on their limitations.

Too often, like Moses and those disciples, we allow our doubts and complaints to overshadow our faith in God's ability to provide. We doubt our God-given resources, skills and capacity to fulfil His call. Yet, like Jesus multiplied the loaves and fish to feed the crowd, He can multiply our efforts and resources to do His purposes. So, learn to trust in His provision, even when faced with daunting challenges. Instead of complaining about your inadequacy, rely on God's strength and abundance to accomplish His will. As you obediently step out in faith, God will provide everything you need to fulfil His calling (cf. 2 Pet. 1:3).

PRAYER POINTS

1. Pray for increased faith to trust in God's provision in every aspect of your life.

2. Ask God to help you focus on His abundance rather than your limitations.

3. Pray that God should give our churches opportunities to step out in faith and see Him in action through us.
