DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE 

DATE: Sunday, April 20, 2025. [Easter Sunday]

TOPIC: NO RETROGRESSION

READ: Philippians. 3:12-18

[12].   Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 

[13].   Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 

[14].     I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

[15].    Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. 

[16].     Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.

[17].     Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern. 

[18].     For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:

MEMORISE : I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14).

EXPOSITION 

On this Easter Sunday, it is important to remind ourselves that, one way to progress in life is to look forward and anticipate what lies ahead. Life is designed to advance and evolve, there is no room for regression. Anything that regresses is deemed retrogressive and such backward movement shrinks value and advantage. As we grow older, we somehow gain more significance. Every New Year comes with a new number that puts us ahead of the previous, showing that life is inherently geared to move forward.

There is an irony in life; it is often easier to remain stagnant or regress than to move forward; it is easier to fail than to succeed. Success requires diligent effort; it takes little or no effort to fail. Paul showed the pursuit of progress. Despite facing numerous obstacles that could have kept him stationary, or pushed him backwards, he persistently moved forward (Php. 3:14). He looked beyond the challenges to the joy and light that lay ahead (2 Tim. 4:8), relying on the victory generated by Christ's resurrection on Easter Day.

PRAYER POINTS

1.     In Jesus' name, I move forward; never backward.

2.     Oh Lord Jesus, help me to always add value to lives around me and populate Your kingdom.

3.     Pray that God should give Christian students who are at the verge of giving up because of exam failures the grace to keep forging ahead towards successes.
