TOPIC: EMBRACING SEXUAL PURITY

MEMORISE : For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality (1 Thessalonians 4:3).

READ: 1 Thessalonians 4: 1-8

[1]. Finally then, brethren, we urge and exhort in the Lord Jesus that you should abound more and more, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God;

[2]. for you know what commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus.

[3]. For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality;

[4]. that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,

[5]. not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God;

[6]. that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified.

[7]. For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness.

[8]. Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.

EXPOSITION

Sexual purity refers to a state of being free from any form of sexual minerality, or activities leading to to it. The Scripture exhorts, _Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against hier men body_ (1 Cor. 6:18). This emphasises the distinct consequences associated with sexual immorality compared to other sins. Purity entails total freedom from sin and sexual purity specifically denotes complete freedom from sexual sins. The term 'Porne 'iae' in Greek encompasses various actions and thoughts related to sexual immorality -- romantic gestures, lustful thoughts, watching explicit content, self-indulgence, etc. that can lead to sexual immorality.

Therefore, sexual purity signifies a life free from any form of sexual immorality. In essence, as we continue in our bid to please God and live holy, let us prioritise the pursuit of sexual purity, recognising it as a crucial component of living according to God's principles of holiness and honouring our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord Jesus, give me the grace to live a sanctified life by abstaining from sexual immorality

2. My body is Your temple, I will do Your Will alone with my body, Lord Jesus.

3. Like Joseph fled from sin, help me Lord to always flee from any evil that can destroy Your temple in me.
