DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE
TOPIC: FAITH IN PERSISTENT PRAYER
MEMORISE : The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much (James 5:16b).
READ: James 5:14-18
[141. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
[16]. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
[17]. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.
[18]. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
EXPOSITION
Prayer is a powerful tool that connects us with God, allowing us to bring about positive change around us. Our text proves the efficacy of fervent prayer through the example of Elijah, a man of like-nature as us, who prayed earnestly and saw miraculous results. Persistent prayer is not just a religious duty but a vital expression of our faith in God's ability to intervene in our lives. Just as Elijah prayed until he saw the rain, we must persevere in prayer until we see breakthroughs in our situations.
Faith is the driving force behind persistent prayer. It is the substance (assurance) of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Heb. 11:1). It is the gift to foresee God's words becoming reality before they do and actually receive them. When we pray with unwavering faith, we activate God's power to bring about the impossible. As we PUSH in prayer, let us hold fast to His promises, He is faithful to fulfil them. May our prayers never be in vain but avail much in bringing about God's purposes in our lives and the world around us, in Jesus' name. Amen.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB: 628
C M
1. Oh, for a faith that will not shrink
Though pressed by many foes
That will not tremble on the brink
Of poverty or woe.
2. That will not murmur nor complain
Beneath the chast'ning rod,
But, in the hour of grief or pain,
Can lean upon its God.
3. A faith that shines more bright and clear
When tempests rage without,
That when in danger knows no fear,
In darkness feels no doubt.
4. A faith that keeps the narrow way
Till life's last spark is fled,
And with a pure and heav'nly ray
Lights up a dying bed.
5. Lord, give me such a faith as this,
And then, whate'er may come,
I taste e'en now the hallow'd bliss
Of an Eternal Home.
Amen.
