DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE

DATE: Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

TOPIC: SHIPS IN TARSHISH

MEMORISE : But the Lord sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship was about to be broken up (Jonah 1:4).

READ: Jonah 1:1-5

[1]. Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

[2]. “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me.”

[3]. But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.

[4]. But the Lord sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship was about to be broken up.

[5]. Then the mariners were afraid; and every man cried out to his god, and threw the cargo that was in the ship into the sea, to lighten the load. But Jonah had gone down into the lowest parts of the ship, had lain down, and was fast asleep.

EXPOSITION

Refusing to pursue godly path often leads us onto wrong ships of friendship, courtship, companionship and relationship. Just as Jonah's disobedience affected his life and those around him, our choices have profound consequences.

1. Friendship: Associations devoid of God's presence can be absolutely sour. Jonadab's influence led Amon astray (2 Sam. 13:1-33). Wrong friendships arise when we stray from God's will (Jas. 4:4).

2. Courtship: Wrong courtships often lead to tragic marriages/turmoil (cf. 2 Cor. 6:14ff).

3. Companionship: Choose companions wisely, as they influence character. Surround yourself with godly people.

4. Relationship: Godly relationships nurture spiritual growth.

You are admonished to be spiritually discerning and prayerful to avoid boarding ships akin to Jonah's. If you find yourself in disobedience, amend your ways promptly.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, guide me away from the wrong paths in life, to prevent disaster, in my life.

2. Lord, help me to heed Your correction when I stray from Your guidance.

3. Pray for CAC Orogun Region, our father in the Lord, the Regional Superintendent, and other officers at the various levels as led by the Spirit of God.
