DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE

DATE: Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

TOPIC: SELF EVALUATION (I)

MEMORISE : Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? - unless indeed you are disqualified (2 Corinthians 13: 5).

READ: 2 Corinthians. 13:1-6
[1]. This will be the third time I am coming to you. “By the mouth of two or three witnesses every word shall be established.”
[2]. I have told you before, and foretell as if I were present the second time, and now being absent I write to those who have sinned before, and to all the rest, that if I come again I will not spare—
[3]. since you seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, who is not weak toward you, but mighty in you.
[4]. For though He was crucified in weakness, yet He lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in Him, but we shall live with Him by the power of God toward you.
[5]. Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.
[6]. But I trust that you will know that we are not disqualified.

EXPOSITION
It is important to get feedback from others, but self-assessment is also very crucial. Be honest and objective with yourself, as there can be a gap between how you see yourself and how others see you. Most importantly, you should be very concerned with how God sees you.
A story is told about a senior employee who was recognised for his excellence at work. However, during his acceptance speech, he surprised everyone by discussing his weaknesses. He acknowledged the compliments, but expressed disappointment that they didn't address any his weaknesses. Self-assessment is crucial and should be done objectively. It is ultimately up to individuals to identify and address their own shortcomings, even when they are highly praised. To get the most accurate assessment, look inward. As the Bible says, _Examine yourselves..... test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you?_ (2 Cor. 13:5 NIV). True self-awareness involves a realistic assessment of your strengths and weaknesses.

1. Thou whose almighty word
Chaos and darkness heard
And took their flight,
Hear us, we humbly pray,
And where the gospel day
Sheds not its glorious ray
Let there be light!
2. Thou who didst come to bring
On Thy redeeming wing
Healing and sight,
Health to the sick in mind,
Sight to the inly blind,
O now to all mankind
Let there be light!
3. Spirit of truth and love,
Life-giving, holy Dove,
Speed forth Thy flight:
Move on the water's face,
Spreading the beams of grace,
And in earth's darkest place
Let there be light!
4. Blessed and holy Three,
Glorious Trinity,
Grace, love, and might,
Boundless as ocean's tide
Rolling in fullest pride,
Through the world far and wide
Let there be light!
Amen.
