THE LIVING WATER (January-December 2025)
DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE
TOPIC: THE DIFFERENCE IS CLEAR!
MEMORISE : For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many (Matthew 24:5).
READ: Acts 5:33-39
[33]. When they heard this, they were furious and plotted to kill them.
[34]. Then one in the council stood up, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law held in respect by all the people, and commanded them to put the apostles outside for a little while.
[36]. For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody. A number of men, about four hundred, joined him. He was slain, and all who obeyed him were scattered and came to nothing.
[37]. After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the census, and drew away many people after him. He also perished, and all who obeyed him were dispersed.
[38]. And now I say to you, keep away from these men and let them alone; for if this plan or this work is of men, it will come to nothing;
[39]. but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it—lest you even be found to fight against God.”
EXPOSITION
The distinction between genuine and counterfeit is always evident. In the realm of branding, similarities in look may be deceiving, but quality ultimately reveals authenticity. As the world approaches its end, Jesus cautions His disciples about false prophets claiming to be angels of light. Today, many impostors emerge attempting to impersonate Christ. Yet, authenticity cannot be imitated
In our passage, we encounter Theudas and Judas, who drew crowds but lacked enduring strength. Conversely, countless martyrs have bravely upheld Christ's gospel, establishing their resilience against persecution. Despite false teachers' claims, their words lack the authority of Jesus. Though they may disguise themselves with grand titles, their ministries lack substance and will be exposed in due time. No matter how they infiltrate, impostors will be unmasked. Only a genuine transformation can redeem them. Beware of deception and may you discern the true Christ, avoiding the pitfalls of false teachings.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord Jesus, forgive me for believing lies from false teachers. Help me discern deceit in this era.
2. Restore purity to Your Church; expel agents of darkness from every corner, even on the altar.
3. Lord Jesus, hasten Your coming to rapture Your Church and rescue her from decay and corruption.
SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB: 615
1. Jesus is the same for ever,
As of old, so now today;
All the hosts of hell endeavour
Vanity to obstruct His sway,
In His people's hearts He reighneth.
Finishes what He begins;
Jesus still "all power" retaineth,
Saves His people from their sins.
2. Jesus is the same for ever;
Yes, He heals the sick to-day
As of old, so now, He never
Turns one suff'ring child away.
He can cure the worst diseases
For He understands our frame;
Bore our griefs, and so releases
All who dare their rights too claim.
3. Jesus is the same for ever;
Still He says "In Me abide."
From His love no pow'r can sever
Those who in their Lord confide
Sweetly from all care He frees us,
Ours the comfort – His the shame.
Blessed Saviour; precious Jesus!
There's no music like Thy name.
Amen.
