TOPIC: NINEVEH OR TARSHISH?

But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD (Jonah 1:3).

READ: Jonah 1:1-4

[1]. Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

[2]. “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me.”

[3]. But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.

[4]. But the Lord sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship was about to be broken up.

EXPOSITION

God provides clear, purposeful instructions for His children, yet we often stray from His path. But, God remains steadfast in His plans. The parable of the lost son (Lk. 15) illustrates this. He faced distress when he abandoned his father's guidance. Jonah's disobedience serves as a cautionary tale against ignoring God's directives. His reluctance to preach in Nineveh led to dire consequences.

Reflect on your current location -- are you where God intends you to be? If not, you are like Jonah in defiance of God's will. Self-will and selfishness yield no benefit for you. Seek forgiveness and a second chance, as Jonah did. Ministers who resist assignments because they seem unappealing dent their own calling and create needless puzzles in their own lives. God's presence attends obedience alone. Ask yourself, why choose Tarshish over Nineveh? No other place can fulfil God's purpose for you like where He sends you. Enjoy this year's National Puzzle Day

1. Father, I thank You for giving me this clear message to profit my spiritual journey.

2. Lord, assist me to always act obediently when I receive Your Message.
