TOPIC: BLESS THE LORD, OH MY SOUL

MEMORISE

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits (Psalm 103:2).

Read

Psalm 103:1-5

[1].   Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name!

[2].   Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits:

[3].   Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases,

[4].   Who redeems your life from destruction,

Who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies,

[5].   Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Exposition

True worship comes from a soul saturated with heartfelt appreciation of the blessings of the Lord. By humans depraved nature, we easily forget the blessings of God arrogating our successes to ourselves, but quick to blame others, including God, for our troubles. But here in Psalm 103, David preached to his own soul to bless the LORD, forgetting not all His benefits. Beloved, the best way to begin a new year is to offer the LORD heartfelt blessing, like what David asked his soul to do. Do the same today at the beginning of this new year.

A deep consideration of this amazing Psalm 103 guides the believer in true worship, pointing the reader to 3 truths: God, the object of worship; the believer's soul, where true worship begins; and the fuel of worship, our expression. David asked his soul to bless the LORD for all the benefits he had received. Beloved, you received abundant divine blessings last year. You should charge your soul to bless God in reverent worship (Eccl. 5:4). Happy New Year!

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:

CAC GHB: 92

1. O Magnify the Lord with me,

    Ye people of His choice!

Let all to whom He lendeth breath

    Now in His name rejoice,

    For love's blest revelation,

    For rest from condemnation,

    For uttermost salvation,

    To Him give thanks.

Chorus:

Let all …the people praise Thee,

Let all …the people praise Thee!

Let all …the people praise Thy name

    For ever and for evermore

    For ever more O Lord!

Let all …the people praise Thee

Let all …the people praise Thee

Let all …the people praise Thy name

For ever and for ever more.

2. O praise Him for His holiness,

    His wisdom and His grace,

Sing praises for the precious blood

    Which ransom'd all our race;

    In tenderness He sought us,

From depths of sin He brought us,

The way of life then taught us,

    To Him give thanks.

3. Had I a thousand tongues to sing,

The half could ne'er be told

Of love so rich, so full and free,

    Of blessings manifold;

    Of grace that faileth never,

    Peace flowing as a river

    From God the glorious Giver,

    To Him give thanks.

Amen.
